VISITING THE MUSEUM
The first stage of the visit starts in 1837, the year in which the first Italian Gas Lighting Company was founded, and tells the story of the "manufactured gas" extracted from coal: starting from the mines in the North of England to the retort furnaces, the coal was transformed into coke, releasing the gas, first used for lighting, then for cooking and heating. It will take over a century to reach the use of methane, the protagonist of the second stage. The use of methane has contributed to the economic and social development of the country.
The story of this change could only be told by the workers who experienced it directly: an overview of testimonies characterises the third stage. In the next two stages, Italgas tells its story through images: the advertising campaigns, the deeds of incorporation, the historic headquarters, the work in the workshops and the construction of the network. A time line marks the significant events of Italgas that develop parallel to the historical journey of Italy, Europe and the world.
The last stage is dedicated to safety and the future, united by constant research into new technologies and innovative solutions.
