Museo Ebraico of Venice. History
Created in 1516 in an area that was once home to a foundry, the ‘Ghetto Nuovo’ was expanded in 1541 with the addition of the ‘Ghetto Vecchio’ and in 1633 the ‘Ghetto Nuovissimo’.
It was here that in 1954 the Venetian Jewish Community founded the Jewish Museum.
Visiting the museum
A visit to the Jewish Museum of Venice is a genuine trip back in time which will give you an excellent insight into the Jewish culture.
You will be able to admire important examples of gold and textiles manufacturing, you will be able to explore the history of the Jews in Venice and discover the beautiful ritualistic objects used at home and in the synagogue during the most important moments of Jewish life.
