Museo Luigi Bailo was the first museum in Treviso and tells the story of the special bond between the capital of the Treviso March and the art of the last two centuries.
Built on the site where the ancient convent of the Jesuati Fathers of San Girolamo stood in the 15th century, “il Bailo”, previously known as the “Museo Trivigiano”, has continued to evolve over the decades.

Damaged during the two world wars and reopened in 1952, in 1959 it became a municipal modern art collection housing works by 19th century artists as well as an archaeology section, now part of the museum of Santa Caterina.
VISITING MUSEO LUIGI BAILO
The focal point of the museum’s collection, which conserves and collates around 340 works by Venetian artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, is the work of Arturo Martini (1889-1947). In fact, the Bailo houses the biggest collection of works by the Treviso master.
The 20th Century gallery, which you can visit by heading up to the first floor, consists of four sections:
- Artists in Treviso between the 19th and 20th centuries
- The young Arturo Martini
- The years of Ca’ Pesaro
- Artists in Treviso between the wars
As well as those of the Master, you can also enjoy works by numerous artists that have depicted and reinterpreted the Venetian city: from Guglielmo Ciardi and his children Beppe and Emma to Gino Rossi, Giovanni Apollonio, the realist works of Luigi Serena, Arturo Malossi and Giovanni Barbisan.
Museo Luigi Bailo is a little gem that is well worth visiting. Why don’t you come and see us?
