BRIEF HISTORY OF LUIGI PIRANDELLO HOUSE MUSEUM IN AGRIGENTO
Built in the late 18th century on the border between the municipalities of Agrigento and Porto Empedocle, the house was home to the Pirandello family from 1867 when they moved there to escape a violent cholera epidemic that blighted Sicily that year.
Luigi was born and brought up here before leaving his beloved Sicily to continue his studies in Rome. The House Museum was declared a national monument in 1949 and purchased by the Region of Sicily, which oversaw its restoration and refurbishment in 1952.
VISITING LUIGI PIRANDELLO HOUSE MUSEUM
A visit to the House Museum will take you back almost 200 years to a timeless atmosphere where, thanks to the documents on display, you can relive the most important phases in the Sicilian author’s literary career.
You can also admire the collection of paintings that belonged to Rosolina, the dramatist’s beloved sister, Luigi himself and his son Fausto.
Before leaving make sure you take a walk down the evocative path that leads to the “Pine Tree” and the “rough stone” in which the ashes of the illustrious Agrigento-born playwright have been kept since 1961.
Surrounded by the “immense and jealous” sea, all the charm of the House of Luigi Pirandello awaits you. Why not pay us a visit?
