VISITING THE POLLEDRARA
A 900 m2 museum protects a large part of this archaeological area, identified in 1984 and subject to excavation work up until 2014.
From the suspended walkway you will be able to admire the archaeological dig which includes a stretch of the ancient riverbed and the marshy environment that conserves numerous different examples of fauna.
You will be able to observe about 20,000 fossils in total, mainly attributable to large mammals such as the Palaeoloxodon antiquus (straight-tusked elephant), the Bos primigenium (auroch) and the Cervus elaphus (red deer). Not to mention the European water buffalo, the rhinoceros and the hare. You will also be able to see tools made from flint and bone that document a human presence dating back around 325-310,000 years. Finally, two large pieces of scenery, made with great scientific detail, will transport you into the fluvial and marshy environment rich in flora and fauna that characterised the Middle Pleistocene age.
Whether you are palaeontology experts or not, come and discover Polledrara di Cecanibbio, a museum for the whole family near Rome, and take a step back into the prehistoric age.
