VISITING THE VILLA
The entrance is on the Appian Way and from here you will access a residence that in terms of dimensions was second only to Hadrian’s Villa.
It was built in the 2nd century A.D. by the Quintili brothers, consuls and rich landowners who Commodus later accused of conspiracy, confiscating all their possessions.
The Emperor loved staying here for long periods because, as the Greek Olympiodorus wrote, “the villa has everything that you would find in a medium-sized city”. And you couldn’t really argue. There was a hall for banquets, a nymphaeum, a hippodrome and the baths, 14 metres high with large windows and multicoloured marbles.
Located on high ground, the villa was ventilated during the sticky Roman summers and warmed during the winter via terra cotta pipes inserted in the walls that conveyed preheated air.
By accessing Villa dei Quintili it is also possible to visit the site of Santa Maria Nova.

- If you are entitled to the reduced ticket you can choose to buy the single day ticket.

- Antiquarium of Villa dei Quintili: access is allowed for up to 4 people at the same time
- Santa Maria Nova: access is allowed for up to 15 people at the same time
- At the entrance your body temperature will be checked. If a body temperature above 37.5 ° C is registered, you will not be allowed to enter the site.
- Inside the site it will be compulsory to wear personal protective equipment.
- Along the route of the visit will be set up indicators for the distancing
- It is necessary to maintain a distance of 1.80 meters between visitors at all times
