Along the Via Flaminia you will discover the beloved residence of the wife of Augustus. A place of extraordinary historical and archaeological relevance in the centre of the modern city.
The Villa of Livia is a classic example of a suburban residence, designed as a landed property and a place of otium, i.e. a haven from the frenetic city where one had the chance to concentrate on their studies and interests.

A visit to the Villa will enable you to discover the wonderful mosaic floors and spaces decorated with inlay. You will walk through the rooms and corridors which alternate with courtyards and gardens, practically untouched over the centuries perhaps out of respect for the memory of the legendary couple.
You will then come to the Antiquarium and the lauretum, the grove of laurel trees used during the triumphs of the emperors, revitalised with the planting of around 64 three-metre tall laurel trees and the same number of clay olla.
Your visit to the Villa of Livia will conclude in the underground space which once housed the fresco of the illusionistic garden today conserved at Palazzo Massimo. The exhibition was conceived like a theatre set which will allow you to appreciate the original masonry and to see a projection of the ancient decoration on a sheet of fabric.
In her corner of paradise the most talked-about matron of the Roman world will feel a bit more familiar to you. Listen to her story with a guided tour. You’ll be amazed!
