The history of "the square" has its origin in the inhospitable area of Velabro, used in ancient times as a necropolis.
After the reclamation it became an ideal place to represent the identity of Rome: through the basilicas, such as that of Maxentius; the sacred places, such as the Temple of Saturn or the House of the Vestals; the pivotal places of debate and discussion, such as the Curia; or the military glory, with the honorary arches, such as that of Titus.
Between ritual and law, walking on the Via Sacra.
